PowerWheel® uses a new type of movement pattern for the sonotrode, which is excited by a torsional oscillator. The welding action is carried out in a rocking rolling movement directly at the weld. This means that the maximum amplitude is always at the centre of the weld area and the power output can be precisely focused.
With the PowerWheel® it is possible to weld the weld nodes in flex wire connections higher and narrower by up to 30% without losing strength. Likewise, high-strength welding can be achieved with the thicker terminal connections.

MT8000 PowerWheel® metal welding press
The robust MT8000 PowerWheel® metal welding press guarantees maximum process control. Different welding modes and trigger types facilitate optimum ultrasonic welding of large cross sections.
Owing to the patented construction of the sonotrode and its new movement pattern it is possible to introduce significantly more energy (8 kN of welding pressure and up to 10 kW of output) into the weld than before.
The current machine design allows reliable welding of copper flex up to 160 mm² and aluminium flex up to 240 mm² cross section.
Applications and industries
PowerWheel® is suitable for welding copper, aluminium, nickel, bronze, brass and other mixed metal combinations. The strength of this technology is particularly evident in the automotive industry where flex wires with large cross sections have to be welded to conductor rails and high-voltage cables have to be welded to tubular cable lugs.
